Developing Child: Course Introduction
(2 units)
Raising a child is extremely challenging, whether or not a couple chooses to pursue pregnancy or is surprised by it! Relationship strain, financial struggle, the need for space, changing health needs, and the sudden shift in values that come with parenting can be a lot for anyone to handle. Young parents, under the age of 24 are under particularly large amounts of stress as they need to balance the changes of entering independent adulthood alongside those that come with raising another human being!
In this class, you will learn about the changes that impact young parents in the stages before childbirth. You will explore ways that young parents can maintain healthy personal lives and relationships with each other, as they also prepare for the arrival of a baby. You will learn strategies and tools to organize your own life for adulthood, maybe even parenthood.
You will also learn about the fetal development of a child--from conception to delivery--and become educated on the most common defects and child safety struggles impacting children today.
